Project Description
The SoilRe5 Technical Assistance Project directly complements the ACFM ETG's Sustainability-Linked Loan. While the concessional loan provides critical liquidity and working capital to strengthen ETG’s agricultural sourcing and trading activities across multiple African markets, the TA adds a targeted layer of impact enhancement and implementation support, with activities focused on sustainable sourcing, climate resilience, soil health, capacity building, and broader ESG interventions across ETG’s agricultural value chains in four RMCs: Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
Project Objectives
- Strengthen Farmer Capacity: Train smallholder farmers in climate-smart agriculture, soil management, agroforestry, and financial literacy.
- Develop Green Fertilizers: Develop and test locally adapted green fertilizer prototypes to improve soil health and promote sustainable farming.
- Promote Innovation: Introduce soil testing services and pilot drone technologies to improve precision agriculture, extension services, and biodiversity monitoring.
- Improve Financial Inclusion: Establish Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and strengthen farmers' access to financial services, with a focus on empowering women.
Expected Outcomes
- 10,000 smallholder farmers trained in climate-smart agricultural practices, inclsuing 50% women and 20% youth.
- 22,000 hectares under climate-smart agricultural practices, including 10,000 hectares under agroforestry.
- 20 hectares of natural forest restores, contributing to landscape rehabilitation and greater climate resilience.
- Soil health and farm productivity improved through targeted soil testing and locally adapted fertilizer recommendations.
- 3 green fertilizer prototypes developed in each participating country to support sustainable and efficient input use.
