Project Description

The project aims to enhance digital literacy and financial inclusion for 100 farmer cooperatives across Kenya, onboarding approximately 250,000 farmers via Mastercard’s Farm Pass platform. By building digital profiles, cooperatives will improve their operational efficiency and financial viability, enabling better access to credit and market linkages. Gender inclusion is central, with 51% women farmers targeted and 30% of cooperatives expected to be women-led in the medium term. The initiative also integrates climate-smart practices by linking cooperatives to clean energy assets.

Project Objectives

  • Train Trainers of Trainers (ToTs): Build digital capacity by training 200 ToTs to onboard farmers and manage cooperative operations digitally. These ToTs will directly train 250,000 farmers across 10 counties, with 51% being women.
  • Enhance Financial Access: Digitize the profiles of 250,000 farmers to improve their creditworthiness and attract investments.
  • Empower Women: Promote leadership and digital participation among women, with 60% of ToTs being female and ensuring 51% of farmers activated are women.
  • Promote Sustainability: Introduce clean energy solutions to 15% of cooperatives to enhance climate resilience.
